Baronessa Italian Restaurant first opened its door in 2005. Initially it was owned and managed by Antonia Cenere, who brought her family recipes from the south of Italy, the region of Puglia, specifically famous for its pizzas and spaghettis. She also wanted to conjure the impression of Italy so she commissioned Clarksburg, MD artist Edna Searles to adorn one of the walls of Baronessa with colorful murals depicting some of the great cities of Italy.
Back in medieval ages Antonia’s family was granted a noble baron title (“baronessa” for women) – this is how the restaurant received its name.
Marcel Jares and Angel Mendoza became business partners in 2016, and bought Baronessa Italian restaurant from Antonia Cenere in 2017. As new owners, they continue good old traditions, maintaining guests’ favorite recipes, and bringing on the new to serve the guests’ diverse tastes.
